I'm tired of feeling un-American just because I am choosing not to sit by the TV and relive the worst day of my life.  Or listen to the radio like I do every day to hear people report on what is going on in New York City or scolding anyone who didn't wear a flag shirt today.  Enough already!

I will NEVER forget when I first saw the news footage.  I am still flying the American flag at my home.  My minivan still has a flag magnet on the driver's side door.  (It had one on the rear hatch but someone stole it.  nice.)  I will never forget how I prayed that Tom would be okay since he was on a plane at that same time.  And how grateful I was when he called to say his plane never left.

I won't forget.  I pray for our servicemen and women who protect our freedom every day.  I send e-mails too.  All year long.  But especially today.

I won't forget.  Now when I hear airplanes fly overhead, I flash back briefly to how weird it was to not hear airplanes for days after 9/11 and then how even weirder it felt when they did start flying again.

I won't forget.  Not on the 5th anniversary and not on the 20th.  And, I imagine most of you haven't forgotten either.  I do believe it is up to us to make sure our children don't forget what it was like and how it changed our lives.  I'm glad that my kids' school had red, white, and blue day today.  I do think some people are too relaxed about it.  I remember when the whole nation was standing together at that time.  Now the two sides of government can't even agree on what color the sky is.  Maybe those people need to be reminded.  Maybe that's why it's on non-stop.  But, I'm guessing they're not watching TV or listening to the radio.  I wish I was wrong.

I just want it to be tomorrow.
